Meadows of the Lidder • Bollywood's Famous Valley
Betaab Valley is a stunning meadow framed by snow-capped peaks and dense deodar and pine forests, with the crystal-clear Lidder river flowing through its heart. Located between Pahalgam and Chandanwari, it was renamed after the 1983 Hindi film “Betaab” was shot here. Today it is one of the most photographed picnic and day-trip spots in the Kashmir valley and a popular stop on the way to the Amarnath Yatra base.

The valley was originally known as Hagan Valley (or Hajan), but it was renamed after the 1983 Bollywood film "Betaab", starring Sunny Deol and Amrita Singh, was shot here. The breathtaking meadows, pine forests, and the Lidder river that featured in the movie made the location famous, and it has been popularly called Betaab Valley ever since.
Betaab Valley is about 15 km from Pahalgam, roughly a 30–40 minute drive by taxi or local cab. It lies on the way to Aru Valley and Chandanwari, so many visitors combine all three points in a single day trip from Pahalgam, often using the local taxi union package that covers the major sightseeing spots.
The valley is at its lush green best from April to June and again from September to October. In peak summer the meadows are carpeted in green with the Lidder river flowing through. From December to February the valley is often covered in snow, offering a completely different, postcard-like winter experience, though access can be limited by weather.
Yes, a nominal entry ticket is charged to enter the maintained garden and meadow area of Betaab Valley, with a small additional fee for vehicles and cameras in some seasons. The fees are modest and are used for upkeep of the site. Pony rides, picnic spots, and small refreshment stalls are available inside.
